A SWAT team arrested a 32-year-old man after they found him illegally possessing a shotgun while conducting a search warrant Friday at a residence in Wonder Lake.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert around 10:30 a.m. Friday regarding the incident.

The sheriff’s office said there was “heavy police activity” near the intersection of Chippewa Drive and East Wonder Lake Road in Wonder Lake.

“There is no public safety threat. Please avoid this area until further notice,” the alert said.

Sheriff’s officials said a search warrant was being conducted at a residence.

Deputies were called out around 8:30 a.m. Friday to the 7100 block of Chippewa Drive, which is east of Wonder Lake Road.

A 911 caller reported a suspect stole from a woman and someone was threatening to hit the victim, according to police radio traffic.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team responded to the residence with a search warrant.

A nearby resident told Lake and McHenry County Scanner she heard the SWAT team involved in a standoff requesting someone to exit the house.

Police eventually arrested Allen L. Austin IV, 32, who resides at the home.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Austin was found in possession of a black barrel Stevens Model 320 12 gauge shotgun.

Austin is not allowed to possess firearms as he has a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification card, the complaint said.

Austin was charged with possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID, a Class 3 felony.

The sheriff’s office has not provided further information on the incident or said what exactly led to the warrant.

McHenry County Judge Jeffrey Altman released Austin from the McHenry County Jail after imposing pre-trial conditions.

Austin was ordered to not possess any firearms, not consume drugs or alcohol and not leave the state without court permission.
