A 75-year-old man was flown to the hospital after good Samaritans performed CPR on him following a rollover crash near Richmond Wednesday afternoon.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Wonder Lake Fire Protection, Hebron Fire Protection District, Richmond Fire Protection District and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 4:43 p.m. to Tryon Grove Road and Barnard Mill Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s officials said a 2013 Kia Sorento was involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The crash occurred on Tryon Grove Road east of Barnard Mill Road and west of Keystone Road near a curve in the roadway.

The Kia, driven by a 75-year-old McHenry man, was traveling westbound on Tryon Grove Road.

He crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic for unknown reasons, sheriff’s officials said.

The Kia drove into the southern ditch, hit a culvert and rolled over.

Good Samaritans stopped and performed CPR on the driver, who was unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics arrived and took over lifesaving measures. A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested after the man began breathing again.

The helicopter landed at the Richmond Township Fire Protection District station on Route 12.

An ambulance transferred the man, who was the sole occupant of his car, to the helicopter.

The helicopter flew the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.

Tryon Grove Road was shut down for several hours while a crash investigation was conducted.
