A Marengo man has been arrested on charges alleging that he sexually abused a 12-year-old child who was staying the night at another house in Marengo.
Joshua S. Haut, 34, of Marengo, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, a Class 2 felony.
The Marengo Police Department arrested Haut around 6:30 p.m. Thursday after he turned himself in to the department.
Officers transported him an hour later to the McHenry County Jail where he remains held.
Marengo Police Department Sgt. Andrew Kjellgren said the department received a sexual abuse report on April 16.
The incident occurred earlier in the morning on the day of the report.
The victim, a 12-year-old, reported that she was staying overnight at a different house, Kjellgren said.
Haut, who is not a family member of the child, kissed the child’s neck, Kjellgren said.
Kjellgren said Haut also rubbed the child’s side and thigh in a sexual manner.
An investigation was conducted and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case before approving the felony charges.
McHenry County Judge Michael Chmiel on Friday ordered Haut detained pending trial after prosecutors filed a petition requesting he be held.
Haut remains in the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday for a status of preliminary hearing.
