Village officials are warning residents to lock their car doors after suspects burglarized vehicles and stole mail from mailboxes in Prairie Grove near Crystal Lake.

The Village of Prairie Grove said in a statement Friday that there were multiple incidents of theft and vehicle burglaries on Thursday.

The suspects, which officials did not provide a description, were in a dark-colored SUV.

The suspects stole mail from mailboxes of residences and stole from unlocked cars that were parked.

The crimes are believed to have occurred between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. in multiple parts of the village, which is located east of Crystal Lake and south of McHenry.

“This is a reminder to lock your car doors,” the village said in the statement.

Police are asking any residents with video footage that might aid in the investigation to contact the Prairie Grove Police Department at 815-455-3918.
