Fire officials say a worker was flown to the hospital in critical condition after he fell at least 10 feet from the roof of a house in Wonder Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 3:26 p.m. Wednesday to the 5300 block of West Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake.
Wonder Lake Fire Chief Mike Weber told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that crews were initially dispatched for a person in pain who could not feel their legs.
It was soon learned the call was for a person who fell. A medical helicopter was placed on standby.
Paramedics arrived and found a 40-year-old man who had been redoing shingles on a roof, Weber said.
The man was on a ladder reaching over when the ladder kicked out and the man fell.
Weber said the fall was estimated to be 10-15 feet from the roof to the ground.
The man was working as part of a company that was contracted to perform the roof repairs.
The LifeNet helicopter stationed out of McHenry was not available and a Mercyhealth REACT helicopter was requested, Weber said.
The helicopter landed behind Wonder Lake Fire Station #1 and an ambulance transported the victim to the landing zone.
The helicopter flew the injured man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Weber said the man was in critical condition but stabilized.
