Police are investigating after a woman was found dead inside a hotel room in Grayslake after suffering a gunshot wound, which was believed to be self-inflicted.
The Grayslake Police Department and Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 12:45 p.m. Saturday to the Comfort Suites, 1775 East Belvidere Road in Grayslake.
A 911 caller reported finding a woman face down in a tub in a room of the hotel.
The caller reported the victim suffered a gunshot wound and they did not know whether the incident was a homicide or suicide.
Officers arrived and located the victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police officials.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation shows the injury was self-inflicted, police officials said, adding there is no danger to the public.
The coroner’s office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the victim, who was an adult female.
A manner of death has not been ruled yet. The incident remains under investigation.
