A man in his 20s was shot in the chest after a gunman or gunmen opened fire on an occupied house and a car in Waukegan Friday evening, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 6:40 p.m. Friday to the 200 block of Fulton Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Officers arrived to find an adult male who had been shot, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.
Officers learned multiple shots had been fired into the home, which was occupied at the time.
Investigators believe the incident was a drive-by shooting, Chastain said.
A car, which was unoccupied and parked in the driveway of the home, was also struck by gunfire.
Information regarding how many shots were fired and information regarding the suspect or suspects was not released.
A resident who lives near the shooting told Lake and McHenry County Scanner it was believed 30 shots were fired and a truck was seen speeding away from the scene.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest while inside the home, Chastain said. The other people inside the home were uninjured.
The male victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment.
He has since been stabilized. The extent of his injuries was not released.
The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
