A driver reportedly lost consciousness, drove off the roadway into the backyard of a residence and struck a deck attached to the home near Mundelein Thursday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 6:20 p.m. Thursday to the 27200 block of North Oakleaf Court in unincorporated Mundelein.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a report of a vehicle that struck a home.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 2019 Volvo SUV that struck a deck, which was affixed to a home.

The Volvo was being driven by a 42-year-old man who lives in the neighborhood, Covelli said.

The driver told deputies he lost consciousness while driving northwest on Lakeview Parkway.

The Volvo traveled off of the roadway into the backyard of the residence, Covelli said.

The Volvo struck the deck and drove partially underneath the deck before coming to rest.

The driver said he regained consciousness following the crash.

There were no signs of impairment from the driver, Covelli said. He was evaluated by paramedics but was uninjured.

Nobody inside the home was injured. The Lake County Building and Zoning Department responded to the scene to check if the home was safe to occupy and deemed the structure habitable.

“Fortunately, there were no children or others outside in the vicinity when this crash happened,” Covelli said.

The sheriff’s office notified the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office due to this crash involving some type of medical issue.

The secretary of state’s office will determine how to proceed with the driver’s driving privileges, Covelli said.
