The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is investigating after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Zion apartment building Wednesday evening.
The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire & Rescue Department responded at 7:31 p.m. Wednesday to the 4200 block of Barberry Lane in Zion for a report of a shooting.
Emergency crews received reports of a 20-year-old man from North Chicago who was shot outside an apartment building.
The man sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to fire department radio traffic.
First responders arrived and performed life-saving measures on the man, Zion Police Lieutenant Derek Zaloudek said.
He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Zaloudek said.
Zion police investigators and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force responded to the scene and recovered “significant evidence” at the location and elsewhere.
An SUV in the parking lot of the apartment building was covered with a tarp.
At least 11 evidence markers were also seen placed in the parking lot.
Investigators are continuing to follow up on multiple leads developed overnight, Zaloudek added.
It is unknown if anyone is in custody.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Zion Police Department at 847-872-8000 and ask to speak to someone in the department’s investigations division.
