No injuries were reported after a fire started inside the garage area of a truck repair and storage facility, causing heavy damage to the building, in Waukegan Tuesday morning.
The Waukegan Fire Department responded around 10 a.m. Tuesday to SDM Transport in the 2300 block of Ernie Krueger Circle in Waukegan for a report of a structure fire.
A 911 caller reported a truck or trailer was on fire inside the building.
The incident was upgraded for additional fire units to respond to the scene.
Waukegan Fire Marshal Todd Zupec said crews arrived to find heavy flames showing from the building.
The fire was inside a large garage door opening and extended to the roof of the building.
All employees of the truck repair and storage facility were able to evacuate and no injuries were reported, Zupec said.
Firefighters conducted an interior attack on the fire and were able to get the main body of fire under control within 15 minutes.
Multiple fire department crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours, Zupec said.
They worked to extinguish various hot spots inside and on the roof.
Zupec said the fire was contained to the middle section of the large commercial building.
The incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) for additional fire departments from the surrounding area to respond to the scene and to cover Waukegan fire stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no damage estimate was immediately available.
