Dakota J. Wilkinson, 29, of McHenry.

A convicted felon has been sentenced to probation after he took a plea deal in a case charging him with burglarizing a McHenry home and illegally entering two other homes.

Dakota J. Wilkinson, 29, of McHenry, was charged in July with residential burglary and two counts of criminal trespass to residence.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Wilkinson burglarized a home in the 900 block of Hayden Drive in unincorporated McHenry around 2:35 p.m. on July 4.

Wilkinson had the intent to commit a theft in the home, which was owned by a family member of the man, the complaint and a grand jury indictment said.

Approximately 40 minutes later, Wilkinson entered a residence without authority in the 4600 block of North Stafford Drive in unincorporated McHenry, the complaint said.

Wilkinson, less than an hour later, entered a third residence without authority in the 600 block of West Oeffling Drive in unincorporated McHenry, the complaint said.

Wilkinson was released from the McHenry County Jail in September with pre-trial release conditions.

Court records show he entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office last week.

He pleaded guilty to an amended count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.

Wilkinson was sentenced to drug court and placed on 30 months of probation.

A jail sentence of 180 days was stayed and will not be imposed unless Wilkinson violates his probation or drug court program requirements.

Wilkinson was also ordered to perform 100 hours of public service

Also part of the plea deal, prosecutors withdrew their petition to revoke probation in a prior McHenry County case.

Court records show Wilkinson had pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic battery by strangulation, a Class 2 felony, in 2021.

He was sentenced in that case to 30 months of probation, which he was still on at the time of his recent burglary arrest.

Court records show Wilkinson also has a prior case from 2018 where he was charged with burglary, aggravated battery of a peace officer, disarming a peace officer, theft and criminal trespass to residence. He received three years in prison in the case.
