Detectives are investigating after a man was wounded and vehicles were struck by gunfire during a shooting in Winthrop Harbor Wednesday evening.

The Winthrop Harbor Police Department responded around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 1000 block of Sheridan Road.

Police officials said they received reports of shots being fired in the area.

Responding officers arrived and located vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.

The Waukegan Police Department responded to Vista Medical Center East a short time later after the hospital reported they had a walk-in gunshot victim.

Waukegan police officials said a male subject walked into the emergency room and said he had been shot in Winthrop Harbor.

The man was wounded in the elbow and treated for his injuries.

Winthrop Harbor detectives are investigating the incident and the connection with the gunshot victim at the hospital.

Police officials did not say why they believed there was no danger to the public and have not announced any arrests.

“The safety of our neighborhoods is everyone’s responsibility. Please report any suspicious activity to the Winthrop Harbor Police Department immediately,” the department said.
