Firefighters were able to reunite with a 120-pound dog that they rescued after she fell through the ice on a pond near a residence in Long Grove.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District responded around 9:10 a.m. Friday to the 20500 block of North Route 53 in Long Grove for a citizen assist call.
Firefighters arrived to find a dog that was in a pond and in need of assistance.
A firefighter donned a Mustang ice rescue suit and entered the pond, which was half-frozen.
The firefighter reached the 120-pound dog, named Belle, and assisted her out of the water.
The dog, a Great Pyrenees, was soon reunited with her owner.
The Long Grove Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 5145 said they were “very proud” of the work done by the fire crew.
Belle and her owner reunited with the fire crew by visiting the fire station on Monday.
