Three people were shot while standing outside in Waukegan and one of the victims caused a vehicle crash in North Chicago while attempting to drive themselves to the hospital Thursday evening.
The North Chicago Police Department responded around 5:40 p.m. Thursday to the area of 10th Street and Prescott Street on the border of Waukegan and North Chicago for a report of shots fired.
North Chicago Police Department Management Analyst Freddrick Diez said officers received a ShotSpotter activation for 13 rounds fired at the location.
Officers learned three victims had been wounded during the shooting, which occurred on the Waukegan side of 10th Street.
One of them, a North Chicago man, was driven to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
He was transferred to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center, Diez said.
Vista East is no longer a Level 2 trauma center and cannot treat such injuries.
The second of the three victims, a North Chicago woman, was also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center.
The third victim, a Chicago man, attempted to drive himself to the hospital with a passenger in his car, Diez said.
The gunshot victim crashed into another vehicle at Buckley Road and Ohio Street in North Chicago.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center.
Diez said all three victims suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Officers recovered spent shell casings from the shooting scene. The number of suspects involved and their descriptions were not available.
