An abandoned home was found engulfed in flames in Wadsworth Monday morning just over a month after another abandoned home was destroyed by a fire on the same property.
The Newport Fire Protection District responded around 1:40 a.m. Monday to the area Route 41 between Interstate 94 and Route 173 in Wadsworth for a report of a structure fire.
Fire officials said people driving by spotted a fire and called 911.
Firefighters arrived to find a fully engulfed ranch-style home near Cermak Drive and Frontage Road.
The home is located on a large parcel of land that is abandoned, fire officials said.
The property was recently bought and the company that purchased it is in the process of demolishing the structures to make way for a commercial property.
Fire crews stood by and let the home burn. No injuries were reported.
The fire did not spread and was not a threat to other nearby structures.
The cause of the fire is undetermined so far and is under investigation by the Newport Fire Protection District.
The incident is the second fire to damage a home on the property in just over a month.
The Newport Fire Protection District responded around 9 p.m. on December 29 to the area of North Mill Creek Road and Cermak Drive after a 911 caller reported a structure was fully involved in flames.
Firefighters arrived to find the structure was an abandoned house and it was confirmed to be engulfed in flames.
Firefighters stood by and let the fire burn because there was nothing to save. No injuries were reported.
