People have been evacuated from the McHenry County Government Center in Woodstock after a suspicious package was found near the courthouse Wednesday afternoon.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said in an alert sent around 2 p.m. that they were on the scene of a suspicious package incident.
The package was found at the east entrance of the McHenry County Courthouse.
Sheriff’s officials said people should avoid the area until further notice.
The east entrance as well as the east parking lot are closed to the public until further notice.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was also dispatched to the scene to standby.
The building, including the courthouse and the sheriff’s office dispatch center, was evacuated due to the incident.
