A 9-year-old child is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times by a suspect at a home in Beach Park Thursday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:45 a.m. Thursday to the 38000 block of North Manor Avenue in Beach Park for a call of stabbing.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Ari Briskman said deputies arrived to find a nine-year-old child who was suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The Beach Park Fire Department responded and paramedics transported the child by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Briskman said the child’s injuries were described as critical and life-threatening.

Deputies became aware a suspect in the incident left the residence prior to their arrival.

The suspect, a 30-year-old man, was located at a nearby train station and taken into custody. The suspect resides on the same block where the incident occurred.

Officials did not provide further on what led to the incident or if the two are related.

Detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the incident.

Briskman said there is no danger to the community and more information would be released as it becomes available.
