Police are investigating after a gunman or gunmen fired shots and homes were struck by gunfire in a Round Lake Beach neighborhood Wednesday evening.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8:55 p.m. Wednesday to the 1300 block of Melrose Avenue for a report of a shooting.

An initial 911 caller reported someone had been shot.

Police officials said officers arrived and searched the area but did not find any victims who had been struck by gunfire.

Officers also contacted local hospitals to see if any victims showed up for treatment.

Officers recovered several shell casings on the ground at the scene. Two homes were damaged by gunfire.

Police officials said they were unaware whether the homes were occupied at the time of the shooting.

No suspects are in custody yet and police are still investigating the incident.

Police officials said the incident was “isolated” and the “public is not in danger.”
