Three homes were damaged after one of the houses, which was vacant following a 2022 fire, became engulfed in flames late Wednesday evening in Buffalo Grove.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to the area of the 2100 block of Silver Linden Lane for a report of a structure fire.
Fire crews were still responding when they spotted flames visible from a distance, village officials said.
They arrived in the area and were redirected to the correct location, which was the 2100 block of Brandywyn Lane.
Firefighters found the entire second floor and roof of a two-story house fully engulfed in flames.
The heat from the fire was impacting the neighboring houses on both sides, village officials said.
Crews began extinguishing the fire while protecting the neighboring homes from the rapidly spreading fire.
Village officials said the fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes and neighboring fire departments were called to assist.
The house where the fire originated had a partial collapse on the second floor. The two neighboring homes both sustained damage in the form of melted vinyl siding.
There were no injuries reported to any residents or firefighters.
The house where the fire originated had been vacant and under repair since an August 2022 fire that left the home uninhabitable.
That fire was investigated and found to have started from candles left burning in the home, village officials said.
The cause of the second fire remains under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.
