
A man was killed and a second person was hospitalized after they were found shot on the sidewalk in front of a residence in Waukegan Saturday afternoon.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 4:20 p.m. Saturday to the 400 block of Powell Avenue in Waukegan for a shooting.
Officers arrived and reported two victims who had been shot.
One of the victims, who was reported to be shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. An autopsy is in the process of being scheduled.
Officials said the victim, who appears to be a man in his late 20s, has not been positively identified yet.
The second victim was alive and transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Their condition was stabilized.
The Waukegan Police Department Major Crime Scene Unit and Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene.
Investigators were on the scene for several hours and officers shut down Powell Avenue.
Shell casings were seen marked by numerous evidence markers on the street and grass along Powell Avenue just south of Forest Avenue.
The Waukegan Police Department has not released information on the circumstances of the shooting or whether any suspects were taken into custody.
