Service fully resumed early Sunday morning on the Union Pacific Northwest line after a Metra train locomotive derailed in Crystal Lake Saturday morning.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday on the train overpass above Route 176 west of Walkup Avenue.
Metra reported Train 710 had derailed and would not be operating. No injuries were reported.
Train 701, scheduled to arrive in Harvard, would not operate past Crystal Lake and was reported to be stopped at Pingree Road, Metra said.
A Metra spokesperson said Train 710 was inbound to Chicago after having left the yard in Harvard.
The train had not made its first stop yet and so it did not have any passengers on board when it derailed.
All Metra trains were not operating north of Crystal Lake for the remainder of Saturday.
Buses were accommodating passengers between Harvard and Crystal Lake stations.
Heavy equipment was called to the scene and crews worked to clear the scene.
Metra reported around 12:30 a.m. Sunday that train service past Crystal Lake to Harvard had been restored.
“Metra anticipates to operate a normal Sunday schedule as train service to Harvard has been restored after Saturday’s train derailment,” Metra said early Sunday morning.
