A 65-year-old man was found dead in the ditch along Route 22 in North Barrington after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening, sheriff’s officials said.
The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:55 p.m. Tuesday to Route 22 and Rainbow Road in North Barrington.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said dispatchers received a 911 call for a car that struck a pedestrian.
Sheriffโs deputies arrived and found a 65-year-old North Barrington man who was dead in the ditch line.
A preliminary investigation shows a 2013 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on Route 22 in the area of Rainbow Road, Covelli said.
As the driver of the Ford traveled eastbound, he struck the pedestrian, who was walking on the south shoulder of the roadway.
The pedestrian was wearing dark-colored clothing and Route 22 is unlit in this area, Covelli said.
The driver of the Ford, a 47-year-old Geneva man, was uninjured and remained on the scene.
He immediately called 911 after the crash and has been cooperative with the investigation, Covelli said.
The Lake County Coronerโs Office responded to the scene and is scheduling an autopsy on the pedestrian.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
