Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said the pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, was attempting to cross Grand Avenue to get to Domino’s Pizza when he was struck by a black 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Volkswagen, driven by a 23-year-old Waukegan woman, remained at the scene.

The 56-year-old man was stable at the time officers spoke to him. He received stitches for a laceration to his head, Chastain said.

The female driver told officers she did not see the man and struck him as he was in the middle of the roadway, Chastain said.

The roadway was reopened by around 9 p.m. following the investigation.
