A male was killed after he became trapped inside his truck that caught fire following a head-on crash that left a woman seriously injured in Barrington Hills Wednesday evening.

The Barrington Hills Police Department and Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 8:51 p.m. Wednesday to the area of County Line Road and Bellwood Drive in Barrington Hills for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Barrington Hills Police Department Press Information Officer William Walsh said a head-on crash was discovered by responding officers.

The crash resulted in a fire starting in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles.

Officers and firefighters arrived to find the fire spread to the passenger area of the car, Walsh said.

The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters but the male driver was pronounced dead.

Walsh said a preliminary investigation showed the vehicle that caught fire, a white 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was traveling eastbound on County Line Road.

Walsh said the male driver of the Ford who was pronounced dead at the scene was the sole occupant in the truck.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of making positive identification of the male victim and notifying his next of kin.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 46-year-old Algonquin woman, was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington in serious condition, Walsh said.

County Line Road was shut down between Ridge Road and Donlea Road until 3 a.m. for the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Barrington Hills Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).
