A 33-year-old man was hospitalized and a second person was also injured after a motorcycle crashed into the side of an SUV at a high rate of speed on Route 173 in Antioch.

The Antioch Fire Department and Antioch Police Department responded around 6:15 p.m. Monday to the area of Route 173 and Deep Lake Road in Antioch for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Antioch Assistant Village Administrator Jim Moran said the crash involved a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2017 Buick SUV.

A preliminary investigation showed the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Route 173.

The Buick was traveling westbound on Route 173 and was attempting to turn left into the Starbucks parking lot, Moran said.

Moran said the motorcycle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed and possibly did not have its headlights activated, struck the passenger side of the Buick as the Buick attempted to turn into the shopping complex.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 33-year-old Antioch resident, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Fire department radio traffic indicated the motorcyclist was found down on the ground.

The man was initially reported to be conscious but then a 911 caller reported he was not responsive at the scene.

Fire crews arrived and reported significant damage to the motorcycle.

A 21-year-old male passenger in the Buick suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital, Moran said.

The extent of the motorcyclist’s injuries was unknown. Moran said his condition was stabilized at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges or citations have been filed yet.
