Sheriff’s officials say they are investigating after a boy was found shot inside an apartment building in an unincorporated area near Long Grove Saturday morning.

The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to the 2300 block of West Nichols Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights.

A Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said sheriff’s police received calls of shots fired at the location.

Sheriff’s police arrived to find a male juvenile with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The Long Grove Fire Protection District transported the boy to a local hospital for treatment, the spokesperson said.

Authorities did not provide the exact age of the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Sheriff’s police were seen arresting a male subject at the scene. No charges have been announced.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident.
