Police officers and firefighters worked together to rescue a trapped occupant from a submerging vehicle at a pond in Grayslake Friday afternoon.

The Grayslake Police Department and Grayslake Fire Protection District responded at around 12:10 p.m. Friday to a pond next to 100 South Atkinson Road in Grayslake for a report of an occupied vehicle in the water.

Officers arrived and found a subject trapped inside the car, which was beginning to submerge in the pond, the police department said in a statement.

“Officers entered the water and shattered the only remaining window not submerged in an attempt to rescue the occupant,” the department said.

Grayslake firefighters also arrived and worked with police to free the trapped occupant from the car.

Paramedics transported the occupant to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for evaluation.

The incident remains under investigation by the Grayslake Police Department.
