No injuries were reported after an ambulance transporting a patient to the hospital crashed into an SUV in Deer Park, sheriff’s officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:55 p.m. Thursday to the area of Long Grove Road and Ela Road in Deer Park for a vehicle crash.
Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Ambulance 321, based out of the department’s station 1, was involved in a crash with an Acura SUV.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and determined there were no injuries in the crash, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
Deputies investigated and determined the ambulance was transporting a patient from a traffic crash to an area hospital.
The ambulance was traveling westbound on Long Grove Road, Covelli said.
As the ambulance approached Ela Road, there was an Acura SUV stopped at the stop sign at Ela Road.
Covelli said the driver of the ambulance thought the Acura made a right turn but the driver of the Acura was still stopped at the stop sign.
The front of the ambulance struck the rear bumper of the Acura. The damage was minor.
Another ambulance was requested to the scene to finish transporting the patient who was in the back of the Lake Zurich ambulance, Covelli said.
