A Crystal Lake man has been arrested after he allegedly delivered fentanyl to a 21-year-old man, leading to the victim’s overdose death in Crystal Lake.
Jeramee L. Brown, 22, of Crystal Lake, was charged with drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
A charging document filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Brown delivered drugs containing fentanyl to another man between Sunday and Monday.
The receiver of the drugs, Maximus Herman, 21, of Crystal Lake, ingested a portion of the fentanyl into his body.
Herman died as a result of an overdose of the drugs on Monday morning, the charging document said.
Court documents said Brown had bought more fentanyl than he needed for personal use and admitted to doing so he could sell it.
Brown also admitted to giving additional fentanyl to Herman while Herman was “in distress from fentanyl consumption,” according to court documents.
Officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department arrested Brown on Monday.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Brown pending trial, calling him a real and present threat to the community.
McHenry County Judge Christopher Harmon granted the petition and remanded Brown to the McHenry County Jail.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court again on April 11 for a preliminary hearing.
