One person was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash that police say was caused by a drunk driver in Crystal Lake Monday evening.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 9:36 p.m. Monday to the area of Huntley Road and Boneset Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann said officers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Jeep SUV was traveling southbound on Huntley Road near Boneset Drive.

The Jeep, driven by Kathie Zaremba, 60, of Marengo, crossed into the northbound lane of traffic, Neumann said.

The Jeep then collided with a sedan that was traveling northbound.

Neumann said Zaremba and the two occupants in the sedan were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Zaremba was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, a Class A misdemeanor.

Neumann said a portion of Huntley Road was shut down for several hours while police investigators worked on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
