Heavy smoke was sent into the sky after a fire broke out and damaged a house, garage and a boat in Spring Grove Wednesday afternoon.
The Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday to the 8000 block of Pillow Hill Road in Spring Grove for a report of a structure fire.
A 911 caller reported heavy flames from a garage and the fire was spreading to the trees. The caller also reported a boat was on fire.
Firefighters arrived and found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames, fire officials said. The fire was extending into the home.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level to bring additional fire departments to the scene.
Fire crews worked to extinguish the fire, which sent a large dark smoke header billowing into the sky.
Residents nearby and responding firefighters reported seeing the smoke in the distance.
Firefighters eventually brought the fire under control by using multiple hose lines.
They performed extensive overhaul operations to ensure hidden fires were extinguished.
Searches of the garage and home resulted in no one being found inside, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.
The Richmond, Fox Lake, McHenry, Wonder Lake, Hebron, Grayslake, Twin Lakes, Harvard, Woodstock, Nunda Rural, Randall, Cary, Lake Villa, Antioch, Fox River Grove, Salem Lakes and Lake Zurich fire departments assisted at the scene or covered calls in Spring Grove during the incident.
