A woman has been sentenced to probation after she pleaded guilty to an incident where she charged at three police officers while armed with a knife in Crystal Lake.
Tammy M. Looper, 56, of Crystal Lake, was charged in May 2023 with three counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said the Crystal Lake Police Department responded to Looper’s residence in the 0-100 block of South Williams Street.
Officers were on scene around 7:14 p.m. on May 6 when Looper placed three uniformed officers in apprehension of being attacked, the complaint said.
Looper was armed with a steel knife and charged at the officers who were at the apartment, the complaint said.
Looper was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Jail.
Court records show Looper was on court supervision at the time of her arrest after pleading guilty in a driving while license suspended case in McHenry County.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt ordered Looper held on a $7,500 bond and she was released a month later after posting 10% of the bond.
Court records show Looper entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
She pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a Class A misdemeanor, in exchange for her other charges being dismissed.
Gerhardt sentenced Looper to two years of probation and 60 days in the jail, which was considered served based on her receiving 30 days of credit, pursuant to the plea agreement.
Looper was ordered to obtain a mental health evaluation and submit to random drug testing during her probation.
