Police say they are working to identify a man who pointed a handgun at a clerk before fleeing a gas station in Libertyville early Monday morning.
The Libertyville Police Department responded around 1:50 a.m. Monday to the Shell, 2070 Shell Drive in Libertyville, for a report of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A male subject entered the gas station, located at Route 45 and Peterson Road, around 1:20 a.m., according to Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Scott Peeler.
The man spent a half hour in the bathroom and an employee went to check on him.
The man began leaving the business, at which point the man pointed a black handgun at the clerk, Peeler said.
The suspect left the parking lot in a silver SUV with tinted windows.
Peeler said the vehicle had Wisconsin license plates and the plate number was not known. The vehicle fled northbound on Route 45.
The gas station was temporarily closed while police officers were on the scene investigating.
The Libertyville Police Department said they are actively investigating the incident.
A surveillance photo of the suspect was released Wednesday.
Anyone who is able to identify the suspect or has information that would assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Libertyville Police Departmentโs Investigation Division at 847-362-8310.
