No injuries were reported after a garage caught on fire and spread to an attached home near Mundelein Saturday evening, causing significant damage.
The Countryside Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6 p.m. Saturday to the 19300 block of Lakeview Avenue in unincorporated Mundelein for a report of a structure fire.
Countryside Fire Protection District Lt. Mike Dovel said firefighters arrived to find an active garage fire.
The homeowners were outside when the fire department arrived, Dovel said.
The garage, which was attached to the single-family residence, was engulfed in flames and spreading to the home.
Firefighters pulled hose lines to begin extinguishing the fire.
Dovel said the home is located in an area that does not have fire hydrants and water needed to be shuttled to the scene using fire department tender trucks.
A water supply was established nearby at Route 60-83 and Midlothian Road.
The incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the box alarm level.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ari Briskman said the garage was deemed a total loss and the rest of the home sustained significant damage.
Briskman said no injuries were reported to any people or animals.
A damage estimate was not immediately available and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
