A Lake County sheriff’s canine is being credited for helping lead deputies directly to a suspect wanted for burglary after he fled in Beach Park Tuesday evening.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy spotted a wanted person around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 38100 block of Loyola Avenue in Beach Park.
The suspect, identified as Zion M. Fleming, 23, who lives on the block, was wanted on a warrant for burglary out of Waukegan, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
Covelli said Fleming immediately fled on foot from the deputy after the deputy spotted him.
Deputy Andrew Martini and Canine Danno were both called to the scene to assist in the search.
Danno began conducting a track of the man through a neighborhood and the track led to the door of a home.
Danno started barking and Fleming surrendered and was taken into custody, Covelli said.
The warrant alleges Fleming burglarized a vehicle and stole items inside the car on March 8 in Waukegan.
“Good boy, Danno!” the sheriff’s office said Wednesday in a social media post recognizing the canine.
