A portion of Wilson Road near Grayslake has been shut down Wednesday after transportation officials say heavy rainfall has led to flooding on and along the roadway.

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) closed Wilson Road to through traffic from Route 120 to Route 60 due to flooding Wednesday morning.

Rainfall over the past several weeks has led to rising water in the surrounding area.

The water has now overtopped the pavement, which could create unsafe driving conditions, LCDOT said.

The road will remain closed as a precaution until the water levels have receded.

A county transportation camera was set up for the public to monitor the conditions on Wilson Road in the coming days through Lake County Passage.

The duration of the road closure has not been determined.

A detour route is in place from Route 60 to Fairfield Road to Route 120, LCDOT said.
