A 10-year-old boy was awarded by the city council after officials say he helped save his mother’s life by calling 911 when he found her unresponsive in Zion.
Jace Rose, 10, of Zion, jumped into action to help save his mother’s life on January 18.
The boy discovered his mother was not waking up. He then courageously called 911, fire officials said.
Jace calmly and accurately provided information to Gurnee/Zion emergency telecommunicator Scott Evans.
Jace followed instructions from the 911 dispatcher until the Zion Fire/Rescue Department arrived on the scene.
Paramedics learned Jace’s mother was suffering from a severe diabetic reaction, which can be deadly if left untreated.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she spent five days. Jace’s lifesaving efforts led to his mother’s successful recovery.
“AÂ failure to act could have led to a tragic outcome,” Zion Mayor Billy McKinney said in a proclamation recognizing the boy.
McKinney and the Zion City Council honored Jace during a city council meeting Tuesday evening.
Jace was presented with the proclamation during the meeting.
“Great job Jace, we’re proud of the great job you did that night, which saved your mother’s life!” the Zion Fire/Rescue Department said.
Zion Fire/Rescue Chief Justin Stried told Lake and McHenry County Scanner this was a well-deserved public recognition considering many incidents in the area are negative in nature.
“The poise Jace showed as a 10 year old while calling 9-1-1 for his mother during a very serious medical emergency on the evening of January 18th of this year was extremely impressive,” Stried said.
