Police are warning residents after suspects stole a car and ditched it before burglarizing numerous other vehicles in a Libertyville subdivision.

The Libertyville Police Department was called in the early morning hours on Saturday to the 100 block of Woodland Road, which is off of Route 176.

Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Chad Roszkowiak said Wednesday that the owner of a 2021 Kia Seltos reported his car as stolen.

The owner reported the Kia was stolen from the driveway of the residence sometime during the overnight hours.

Two additional vehicles in the driveway had been rummaged through but nothing was reported missing, Roszkowiak said.

Officers later located the stolen Kia in a neighboring driveway on Woodland Road.

The car was unoccupied and the steering column was damaged.

Roszkowiak said that a short time later officers discovered several vehicles with car doors ajar along Woodland Road.

The interior contents were in disarray and the owners of the vehicles were notified. They did not notice anything missing from their cars.

The Libertyville Police Department said they remind residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables, including keys and key fobs.

“We also want to remind residents to ensure the doors to their garages and residences are locked, especially at night,” Roszkowiak said.

Anyone with information or video surveillance that would assist in the apprehension of the offenders involved is asked to contact the Libertyville Police Departmentโ€™s Investigation Division at 847-362-8310.
