Heavy traffic delays were reported on Interstate 94 near Libertyville after a car caught on fire and quickly became engulfed in flames Saturday afternoon.

The Libertyville Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded around 1:20 p.m. Saturday to Interstate 94 between Route 176 and Route 60 for a vehicle fire.

Emergency crews arrived to find a gray 2016 Hyundai SUV that was fully involved in flames north of the Lake Forest Oasis.

The car was parked on the right shoulder in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94.

The owner of the Hyundai escaped from the car without injury, state police reported.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and a tow truck was called to the scene to remove the vehicle.

Illinois State Police reported the two right lanes were blocked due to the incident.

All lanes were reopened by around 2:15 p.m. after Ernie’s Wrecker Service towed the car.
