The all-clear has been given after a false alarm of an emergency response system triggered a large police response and lockdown at a middle school in Gurnee Monday.

The Woodland Middle School was put on lockdown around 11:20 a.m. Monday.

The BluePoint Emergency Response System was activated, prompting the lockdown.

School officials were working with the Gurnee Police Department to go room by room to clear the building.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said the alarm activation triggered the response of all available Gurnee police officers.

“At this time, we are not aware of any obvious threat to safety, but we are following all lockdown procedures until we know the nature of the system activation,” Woodland School District 50 said in a message to parents.

“We will follow up with more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the situation,” the message said.

In an update around 12:25 p.m., the district said the lockdown had been lifted.

The lockdown was the result of aย false alarm that occurred as part of the installation of the new BluePoint Emergency Response System.

The installation team was working to connect the emergency announcement with the schoolโ€™s public announcement system and the recording went live through the building in error.

“There was never a threat to WMS students and normal operations have resumed,” the district said in the update.

“Thank you to the Gurnee Police Department for responding to WMS and helping us resolve the issue quickly,” the district added.

Gaylor said the police department will work with the school district to review the new system procedures and the response to today’s incident.
