A Waukegan man, who has 67 arrests and seven pending criminal cases, was arrested after he burglarized a bar and defecated “all over” the business, prosecutors said.
Ricky A. Hayes, 52, of Waukegan, was charged with burglary, a Class 2 felony.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ayah Elfarra said the North Chicago Police Department responded on April 2 to Toby’s Tavern, 1930 Green Bay Road.
Officers responding to the call of a burglar alarm found Hayes leaving the bar and grill with beers in his hands and pockets.
A search of the establishment showed Hayes had defecated all over the building, Elfarra said.
A refrigerator was also left open and cans of beer were missing.
Elfarra said Hayes admitted to breaking into the closed bar and said he did so to get warm.
The burglary charge is not detainable under the SAFE-T Act but because Hayes was out on pre-trial release in other cases, prosecutors filed a petition to revoke his release in one of those cases due to him violating his release conditions.
Hayes currently has seven pending criminal cases in Lake County.
Hayes has been arrested approximately once a month since October, Elfarra said. “He clearly can’t control himself and his violations of the law have escalated in severity.”
Elfarra said the man has 67 arrests dating back to 1989 and has served numerous sentences in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Some of those sentences include offenses of theft, residential burglary and burglary.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak granted the petition to revoke Hayes’ release and remanded him to the Lake County Jail.
Potkonjak said Hayes had more warrants in his background than a Guinness World Record as the judge went through various factors in his decision to detain the man.
