A 4-year-old boy from Zion has died days after he was found unresponsive from a suspected drowning in a hotel pool in Glenview, authorities said.
The Glenview Fire Department and Glenview Police Department responded around 9:26 p.m. Friday to the Renaissance Chicago Glenview Suites Hotel, 1400 Milwaukee Avenue in Glenview, for a report of a drowning.
A 4-year-old child was reported to be unconscious and not breathing in the hotel pool, according to 911 callers.
The child was pulled from the water and bystanders began performing CPR on the boy.
Officers arrived and took over performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
An ambulance rushed the child to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in serious condition, police said.
Officers shut down nearby intersections to expedite the transport.
Brayden Brubaker said he saw the child in the deep end of the pool before he was pulled out of the water.
Jeff Brubaker said he performed chest compressions and rescue breaths on the boy. He could hear water in the child’s lungs.
The boy remained in the hospital for several days and was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Carter E. Patterson, 4, of Zion.
Patterson’s official cause and manner of death are pending.
