
Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy shot a dog after multiple aggressive dogs, one of which remains on the loose, attacked people in a neighborhood near McHenry.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded just before 6 p.m. Thursday to the area of West Heumann Drive and Stilling Boulevard in unincorporated McHenry.
The sheriff’s office said they received a call for an aggressive dog fight in the area.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection also responded after a report that someone had been bitten by one of the dogs. Three ambulances were dispatched.
Several people were injured by the dogs, including a deputy who was bitten, the sheriff’s office said. McHenry County Animal Control was requested to the scene.
One of the dogs was fatally shot by a deputy and another aggressive dog, described as a brown pitbull, remains on the loose as of 8 p.m. Thursday.
The deputy who was bitten transported themselves to the hospital.
A second deputy who was reported injured declined medical treatment.
The public is asked to remain in their homes and report any sightings of the dogs to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at 815-338-2144.
