A man was flown in critical condition to the hospital after a head-on crash that also injured two others, including a child, near Huntley Thursday afternoon.
The Huntley Fire Protection District, Huntley Police Department and Gilberts Police Department responded around 3:22 p.m. Thursday to the area of Huntley Road and Kreutzer Road in unincorporated Huntley for a head-on crash with injuries.
Huntley Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said firefighters arrived to find a serious two-vehicle crash in the intersection.
Three ambulances were requested to the scene after multiple injured victims were reported.
Firefighters began extricating two victims from a heavily damaged Jeep SUV, Vucha said.
Both victims, an adult male driver and a child passenger, were extricated within 15 minutes.
Vucha said the adult male driver of the Jeep was flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The man had critical injuries that were considered life-threatening at the time of transport.
The child and an adult female driver of a red sedan were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital. They suffered moderate injuries.
The driver of the red sedan was the sole occupant of the vehicle, Vucha said.
The intersection of Huntley Road and Kreutzer Road was shut down for a crash investigation and remains closed as of 6:30 p.m.
The Gilberts Police Department and Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the cause of the crash.
