A Lake Villa man was charged after prosecutors say he strangled a security guard and slashed the victim in the face with a box cutter at a Chick-fil-A in Chicago.
Peyton L. Caruth, 19, of Lake Villa, was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a security officer, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal trespass to land.
Prosecutors said a man was working as a security guard at the Chick-fil-A, 177 North State Street in Chicago, on April 5.
The security guard saw Caruth sitting at a booth with no food and asked him to leave.
Caruth became agitated and began to yell. Caruth started a physical altercation with the victim, prosecutors said in a detention petition.
Caruth placed his hands around the security guard’s neck and strangled him, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Caruth pulled out a knife and sliced the victim in the forehead, causing him to bleed.
Prosecutors said Caruth threatened to stab other employees during the incident.
Caruth fled the scene and was located in a nearby parking garage where he was arrested.
Police noted in their incident report that they found Caruth with blood on his clothing. They also recovered a box cutter from his possession.
The victim was transported to a hospital where he received seven stitches.
He was able to positively identify Caruth in a photo line-up and the incident was captured on surveillance video, prosecutors said.
CWBChicago reported that Cook County Judge Ankur Srivastava ordered Caruth detained in the Cook County Jail pending trial.
The judge said Caruth’s “extremely erratic” behavior in court was one of the reasons he decided to order him detained, CWBChicago reported.
