A 25-year-old man was killed and a second man was critically injured in a high-speed rollover crash involving a pickup truck that struck a tree and signs near Antioch Sunday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department responded around 10:45 p.m. Sunday to the area of North Avenue and Deep Lake Road in unincorporated Antioch.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a call for a single-vehicle traffic crash with injuries.
Deputies arrived and found a 25-year-old Antioch man deceased on the ground near the wreckage.
A preliminary investigation shows a 2022 Ford F-350, driven by the 25-year-old man, was traveling westbound on North Avenue.
Covelli said it appeared the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed.
The Ford left the roadway for an unknown reason as the vehicle traveled westbound. It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control.
The Ford struck several traffic signs and rolled several times before striking a tree.
The driver exited the vehicle and collapsed before being found dead by emergency crews.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 27-year-old Antioch man, was critically injured in the crash.
He was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, Covelli said.
The Lake County Coronerโs Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
