No injuries were reported after heavy flames quickly engulfed a garage, leaving it a total loss, next to a house near Spring Grove Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 3:44 p.m. Monday to the 38300 block of Eighth Street in unincorporated Spring Grove for a report of a structure fire.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said firefighters arrived to find a fully involved garage.
The garage was detached from the residence and located in the backyard.
Damos said firefighters pulled multiple hose lines and began extinguishing the fire. The fire was under control within 10 minutes.
The fire occurred in an area where there were no fire hydrants, which meant firefighters had to haul water to the scene.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire before it could spread to the nearby home, Damos said.
The garage, approximately 15 feet by 15 feet, was deemed a total loss. The garage was used for yard storage.
No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported, Damos said.
The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental but the source of the fire has not been determined.
Damos said firefighters remained at the scene until approximately 5:15 p.m. The Antioch, McHenry and Spring Grove fire departments assisted Fox Lake.
