One person was injured after a school bus and a portable toilet hauler truck crashed on Route 41 in Lake Forest, resulting in heavy delays Wednesday morning.
The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 6:10 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Route 41 and Westleigh Road for a report of a vehicle crash.
Fire crews received a report that the driver of the truck was trapped in the crash, prompting the additional response of the Libertyville and Lake Bluff fire departments.
Firefighters arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus and a septic truck.
The truck was blocking the intersection while the school bus had pulled over to the shoulder following the incident.
The truck, which was hauling portable toilets, leaked fluids onto the roadway.
Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Michael Lange said no students were on the bus and the only occupant was the driver.
The driver of the septic truck was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Lange said.
The school bus driver was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
Police initially shut down three of the four lanes of southbound Route 41 just north of Westleigh Road, leaving southbound traffic with only the far left turn lane to get through the intersection.
The roadway was eventually reopened after crews removed the damaged septic truck and debris from the roadway.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Lake Forest Police Department, Lange said.
