Gregory A. Williams, Jr., 40, of Lakemoor.

Deputies found a replica gun and arrested a man who was caught burglarizing vehicles and trailers at a business near Libertyville early Monday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 2:05 a.m. Monday from a property owner in the 19100 block of Route 137 in unincorporated Libertyville.

The caller said he was monitoring surveillance cameras installed on the property when he observed two people in a gated area on the property where several trailers were located.

Lake County sheriff’s dispatchers were able to provide responding deputies with real-time information on what the caller was seeing from his surveillance cameras, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and immediately located one of the two men, Gregory A. Williams, Jr., 40, of Lakemoor.

A further investigation at the scene showed Williams and the other man were at the property to burglarize trailers and vehicles, Covelli said.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered one trailer where the two forced entry to the door. Burglary tools were located near the trailer.

A backpack was located nearby containing a BB gun, which resembled a real firearm, Covelli said.

The second offender ran away just prior to the arrival of deputies but he has been identified and an arrest warrant is being sought.

Williams was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the facts and circumstances of the incident and approved two counts of burglary and one count of possessing burglary tools.

Lake County Judge Raymond Collins remanded Williams to the Lake County Jail during a First Appearance Court hearing.

The judge scheduled a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
