A former nurse who pleaded guilty to neglecting residents of a nursing home in Crystal Lake for working while intoxicated has been sentenced to probation.

Angela S. Hutchison, 48, of McHenry, was charged in July with one count of criminal neglect of a facility resident, a Class 4 felony.

She was later indicted on a second count of the same charge in August.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Hutchison was employed at Fair Oaks Health Care Center, 471 West Terra Cotta Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Hutchison worked as a registered professional nurse at the center, which is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility.

The complaint said Hutchison criminally neglected residents by working while she was intoxicated.

Her actions “recklessly created a substantial likelihood” that a resident’s life be endangered or their pre-existing conditions to deteriorate, the complaint said.

A grand jury indictment said Hutchison also failed to perform duties that created a “substantial likelihood” that a resident’s life be endangered or pre-existing conditions to deteriorate.

The court documents listed the offense dates as June 11.

An arrest warrant was obtained by detectives with the Crystal Lake Police Department in July and she was released on a $12,000 bond, 10% of which she posted, following her arrest on July 12.

Records with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) show Hutchison’s professional nursing license, obtained in 2009, was suspended on July 25.

Hutchison’s suspension is indefinite and will be in place for a minimum of a year due to her “substance use and impairment,” according to the IDFPR.

Court records show Hutchison entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office this week.

She pleaded guilty to one count of criminal neglect of a facility resident, a Class 4 felony. Her second charge was dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt approved the plea and sentenced Hutchison to 30 months of probation and 100 hours of public service.

Hutchison was accepted into the Drug Court program and a 180-day jail sentence was stayed. The jail sentence could be imposed if Hutchison fails to comply with the terms of her probation.

She was ordered to not consume illegal drugs or alcohol and comply with all Drug Court requirements.
